5 Steps to a Better Monday

Let’s face it, no sane person likes Mondays, especially Monday morning, but the day can set the tone for your entire work week. Since I graduated from college and have had to settle into adult world and reality, I’ve been trying to become more of a morning person and take the steps to better enjoy my Monday mornings. I’m no expert, by any means, but when I implement these five things into my AM routine, I almost always have a better start to my day.

Let the light in.
While it’s tempting to batten down the hatches to your bedroom with blackout curtains and a sleep mask, it’s much easier to wake up in the morning if you nix your vampire ways and let a little natural light in. With the sun slowly rising and creeping in your windows, your natural clock is also going to slowly wake you up in time with the daylight, lessening the harshness of your alarm sounding off. 
Primping before dressing.
One of the worst feelings in the morning is feeling like you have nothing to wear or your clothes just don’t look good on you. This hit to your self esteem can really put a damper on your confidence and mood for the whole Monday. I’ve recently started doing my hair and makeup before I get dressed, and I’ve noticed that when I look “prettier” and more put together, I generally feel better about my clothes as well and have less and less last minute outfit crises.
Juice before food.
The first thing I’ve been putting into my body every morning as of late is juice. And not your processed Tropicana, but a hardcore cold-pressed clean blend of fruits and veggies. Since your stomach is empty when you first wake up, your body can better digest the juice and process all the beneficial nutrients. It also provides a great natural burst of energy and sets a healthy tone to the rest of my day. Lately, I’ve been obsessed with Suja juices, particularly the 24 Karat, which is a blend of carrot, orange, apple, pineapple, peach and banana.
Prepare.
“A Sunday well spent leads to a week of content.” This old adage couldn’t be any more true. In order to have an easy breezy Monday, you need to put the work in on Sunday. Prepare anything you can the night before to take the stress out of Monday morning. Make your lunch, lay out your outfit, pack your purse, do your laundry, whiten your teeth, WHATEVER you can do so you are not rushing on Monday morning. I know my future self always appreciates productive Sunday Erin.
Positive tunes and a positive tude.
Last, but not least, nothing makes Monday morning a more positive experience than a positive attitude. If you think Monday is going to suck, then well, it’s probably going to suck. Focus your energy on manifesting a pleasant day and take time to appreciate the fresh start you have to create a great, productive week. For me, I know I can always pick my mood up by listening to upbeat music (recently I’ve been loving “We Were Us” by Keith Urban and Miranda Lambert), so blast “Walkin on Sunshine” until your bad mood disappears. Monday can be a daunting stressful day, or it can be an opportunity for you to start over and have another chance at creating amazing things – it’s up to you.
